Surgeons

There are a number of surgeons associated with Martha Jefferson Hospital. Some are general surgeons and may be involved in the removal of tissue for biopsy and the removal of certain tumors for a wide variety of cancers.

For example, it is often the general surgeon who performs removal of tumors for breast cancer, colon and rectal cancer, as well as other tumors of the abdominal or chest cavity. For bladder, prostate or kidney cancer, a patient may need to see an urologist. Urologists specialize in the treatment and surgical removal of tumors located in the urinary system.

If your cancer is located in the head and neck area, an otolaryngologist, or physician specializing in ear, nose and throat, will be involved. They may perform the biopsy and/or remove the tumor surgically.

Our surgeons are board-certified and highly experienced. Your surgeon can explain the specifics of your surgery and the recovery required.
