Radiation Therapy is the noninvasive treatment of cancer with ionizing radiation.
At Martha Jefferson Hospital, our goal is to deliver national benchmark-level radiation therapy, utilizing state of the art treatment machines with clinically validated treatment plans. Our experienced team of dedicated professionals is focused completely on taking care of patients, without the competing responsibilities of research or teaching. Our board-certified radiation oncologists direct the patient simulation, contour the tumor and normal structures, collaborate with the dosimetrist and physicist in treatment planning, closely supervise daily treatment delivery and meet with their patients at least weekly during treatment.
What makes us different?
Radiation therapy may be used as the primary treatment for cancer or in conjunction with chemotherapy and/or surgery. In many cancer types, such as cancer of the larynx, breast or anal canal, radiation provides comparable cure to radical surgery without loss of function or body part. Depending on the clinical situation, it may be given in multiple sessions over 6 to 8 weeks daily or in just 1 to 5 treatments.
