Dr. Balaban joined Martha Jefferson Medical Staff in 1997. He received his medical training from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Balaban completed a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Virginia. He holds board certification in gastroenterology. He has served as Chief of Medicine at Martha Jefferson Hospital and is currently Director of Medical Nutrition Support Services.
Dr. Gomez joined Martha Jefferson Medical Staff in 2001. He received his medical training from the Eastern Virginia University School of Medicine, and he completed his internal medicine residency training and gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Gomez holds board certification in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Leavell received his medical degree with the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Leavell completed a two-year fellowship in gastroenterology from the University of Virginia and is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Dr. Oblinger completed his medical training and internal medicine residency with the University of Virginia Medical School. Dr. Oblinger also completed a two-year gastroenterology fellowship from the University of Virginia. He holds board certification in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He has served as the Chief of Medicine at Martha Jefferson Hospital and as Chairman of the Board for Martha Jefferson Health Services.
Dr. Pambianco joined Martha Jefferson Medical Staff in 1989. He completed his medical training at the American University of the Caribbean and completed his internal medicine residency at the Guthrie Clinic. After completing a University of Virginia gastroenterology fellowship in 1987, he joined their faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Pambianco is Director of Endoscopy at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Dr. Smith joined CGA in the summer of 2010. She is a 2004 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the MCV-VCU Hospitals in Richmond, where she served as Chief Fellow in 2009-1010. She is board certified in gastroenterology. She is the recipient of a World Transplant Congress Young Clinical Investigator Award, is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Her clinical interests include interventional endoscopy and the endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s esophagus, including endoscopic spray cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation. She has been an invited speaker at ACG regional meetings and Digestive Disease Week. She has published numerous articles in the medical literature in the fields of hepatology and esophageal reflux disease, and she is the author of a book chapter on the evaluation of patients with HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection.
Dr. Yoshida completed her medical training and residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Virginia Health Services Center. Dr. Yoshida specializes in screening colonoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound.
